Ford won’t sell you a Ranger Raptor on this side of the pond, but luckily, a few tuning companies have started rolling out conversions that will make your pickup truck look and drive similarly to Euro-spec model. One of them is PaxPower, who has prepped a hot vehicle for the 2019 SEMA Show.
Building on the U.S.-spec Ranger Lariat FX4, which sits above the XLT and XL, it features OEM body panels that have been imported from Europe. The visual transformation has made it look like a veritable Raptor, bar a few changes such as the added LED bar and custom Addictive Desert Designs bumpers. For the show’s purposes, the tuner repainted it in Blue Jean Metallic, a shade not available by Ford.
Review: Does The Ford Ranger Raptor Work As A Family Car?
Now, this Ranger Raptor lookalike may have the distinct design, but does it drive the same? PaxPower didn’t saw an OEM suspension swap as feasible, so they turned to BajaKits for the setup. This uses longer and stronger upper and lower control arms and widens the track width by 5 inches (127 mm), while also improving suspension travel. A set of 2.5-inch racing shocks with ride adjustable knobs and reservoirs are included as well which, when combined with the custom-painted 17-inch rims wrapped in Toyo R/T tires, make it more potent off-road.
The tuner is keeping the rest of the details a secret until the truck premieres at SEMA, at the BajaKits booth, in the Upper South Hall, but they did say that power has increased to roughly 350 horsepower. The engine calibration thus makes it more powerful than Europe’s diesel-powered Ranger Raptor, whose 2.0-liter mill kicks out 210 HP. Pricing for the tuned truck will start at around $65,000, which would get you a nicely specced F-150 Raptor, or a 2020 Mustang Shelby GT350.
