If you’ve missed the moment when a metal ball was thrown at the driver and rear passenger side window of the Tesla Cybertruck during its unveiling, you can re-watch the action right here on our YouTube channel.

While the ball didn’t go through, it did end up cracking the windows, which wasn’t supposed to happen. Later, we learned that the “sledge hammer on the doors” part of the demonstration was responsible for what happened.

In any case, it was a bit embarrassing, and it was obvious that Musk himself became a little flustered after seeing the windows shatter that way.

Well, leave it to BMW to kick the SoCal EV-maker while it was “down”, by tweeting out the following message regarding their armored X5 Protection VR6 model: “Comes with bulletproof windows and offers splinter protection in case it gets hit by a metal ball.”

This tweet was sent out a day after the Cybertruck unveiling, so no, we’re pretty sure it’s not a coincidence and that BMW was really having a go at the Tesla, despite the fact that the X5 VR6 resides in a completely different segment and has a much higher price tag.

To us, this feels a bit gratuitous, seen as how the X5 Protection VR6 is a whole different animal; The armored SUV is able to absorb shots from rifles such as the AK-47, as well as 33 lbs (15 kg) lateral blasts of TNT from a distance of four meters.
