Christine-Inspired 1958 Plymouth Fury With 1,000 HP Will Scare The Hellephant Out Of You

There were some pretty amazing cars at this year’s SEMA Show and this 1958 Plymouth Fury from the Graveyard Carz show over on Motor Trend TV was certainly one of the finest.

Initially powering the car was a V8 Golden Commando engine delivering 305 hp, more than enough for 1958 but nothing in the modern world where high-performance four-cylinders are now producing more than 400 hp. Consequently, the decision was made to remove the standard engine and replace it with the 426 cubic-inch Hellephant supercharged V8 engine that pumps out no less than 1,000 hp and 950 lb-ft (1,288 Nm) of torque.

The car takes inspiration from the 1983 horror film Christine and is painted in a glorious shade of red complete with various chrome accents and white-walled tires. It also inevitably has enough power to put some of the planet’s finest supercars and hypercars on notice, including those few all-electric ones.

Plymouth built the Fury in various different forms between 1955 and 1989 and just 5300 examples of the 1958 model year Fury equipped with the available Golden Commando engine are thought to have been built, making it quite the rare car.

As for Mopar’s crazy Hellephant engine, it was unveiled at SEMA last year and shortly after it went on sale, all allocated units were sold out. It remains to be seen just how many units are bound for the production line but we’re sure those engines heading to customers will be used for some rather remarkable builds and engine swaps.
