Dogs are commonly referred to as man’s best friend, but one pooch in Port St. Lucie, Florida apparently didn’t get the memo and decided to give his owner an unusually hard time.

According to WPBF, residents came across an interesting sight recently as they witnessed a dog ‘driving’ around their cul-de-sac in circles.

The station talked to Anne Sabol, who saw the odd incident and originally thought it was just someone backing up. However, after seeing the car going around in circles, she decided to go outside and check it out.

While she was undoubtedly expecting to find a person behind the wheel of the Mercury Sable, that wasn’t the case. Instead, the only occupant was a large dog which was taking a joyride in reverse. Emergency crews were called to scene and two police officers can be seen watching the slow motion mayhem.

The Port St. Lucie Police Department says the owner of the car made a wrong turn and stopped to get their bearings. However, he left the car running with his dog Max inside. Max somehow managed to shift the car into reverse, while also locking out the driver.

The owner eventually got a spare key fob, but the battery in it was dead. As a result, police decided to use the Sable’s door-mounted key pad to unlock it.

Max reportedly jumped out of the car and officers were able to bring it to a halt. Thankfully no one was hurt, but the Sable apparently stuck a mailbox, a few garbage cans and some bricks. Despite that, the Mercury doesn’t look that much worse for the wear as the only damage appears to be a dent near the fuel door.
