Europe’s 2020 Honda Civic Gains Subtle Styling Updates, New Equipment

Following the updates made in North America, the (still) UK-built Honda Civic hatchback sold in Europe receives similar styling and equipment upgrades.

On the outside, the compact model adopts a new lower front grille around the fog lights with sleek styling blades and a smoothed surface, as well as a simpler grille beam configuration and new air intake design. Further changes at the front include standard full-LED headlights and redesigned LED DRLs that follow the lines of the styling blades.

The 2020 Honda Civic also gains new 16-inch alloys for the entry-level model and “Shark Grey” 17-inch alloys for mid- and top-range models. Rounding off the exterior updates is a new paint finish called Obsidian Blue.

Moving on to the cabin, the Honda Civic features new textured interior panels for a more premium ambience, an electric eight-way adjustable driver’s seat for top-of-the-range models, and enhanced usability thanks to the addition of physical buttons and dials for the infotainment and climate controls.

The engine lineup remains unchanged and includes two gasoline units and a diesel. The former category includes a 1.0-liter VTEC Turbo unit rated at 126 PS (124 HP) and 200 Nm (148 lb-ft) of torque and a 1.5-liter VTEC Turbo making 182 PS (180 HP) and 240 Nm (177 lb-ft) of torque.

There’s also a 1.6-liter i-DTEC diesel engine rated at 120 PS (118 HP) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque. Gasoline engines can be had with either six-speed manual or CVT automatic transmissions while the diesel comes with a six-speed manual or a nine-speed automatic.

All models are equipped as standard with the Honda Sensing safety suite featuring Collision Mitigation Braking System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist System and Traffic Sign Recognition. The updated Honda Civic will be available to order across Europe from December, with deliveries following in January 2020.
