Ford has issued three safety recalls in North America that affect several pickup truck models and one SUV, over potential fire risks and lighting issues.

The first campaign includes 135,725 units of the 2019-2020 Ford F-150 in the United States and federalized territories, 30,073 in Canada and 2,257 in Mexico. They were made at Dearborn between July 15 and October 1, 2019 and at Kansas from June 24 to October 1, 2019, and have to be brought back in for inspection as they present a fire risk, among others.

According to the announcement made by the company, the “positive battery-terminal fastener may not be secured due to wiring eyelet adhesive on the surface area of the terminal joint contact for the battery-monitoring sensor”. This could cause the engine to stall and would affect the braking and steering assist, and might also create a resistive short, thus increasing the risk of a fire.

The second recall affects 86,296 examples of the 2018-2019 Ford F-Series Super Duty in the U.S. and federalized territories and 14,079 in Canada. They were made at Kentucky from May 1, 2017, to July 13, 2018, and from March 5, 2018, to October 8, 2019. These are equipped with LED headlamps that fail to comply with federal safety standards, as due to the incorrectly configured body control module, when the DLRs illuminate and the lighting switch is moved to the low-beam position, the DRLs do not revert to the correct parking lamp intensity.

Included in the third safety campaign are 54,411 units of the 2016-2017 Lincoln MKX in the U.S. and federalized territories and 5,253 in Canada. All of them are equipped with the 3.7-liter engines and were put together at Oakville from November 12, 2014, to September 11, 2017. The battery cable harness in these vehicles could have substandard clearance, which might allow it to come in contact with the transmission shifter cable bracket. The latter could wear through the insulation cable, thus increasing the risk of fire.

All cars will be inspected by authorized Ford technicians, who will perform the repairs free of charge.
