The 2019 FIA Certified Gran Turismo Championships World Finals hosted yesterday in Monte Carlo saw not only the unveiling of the Lamborghini Lambo V12 Gran Turismo Concept, but Mazda’s announcement of the RX-Vision GT3 Concept as well.
Obviously based on the RX-Vision Concept presented at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, it is currently being put together by Polophony Digital, the Gran Turismo Sport maker on PlayStation 4, in partnership with Mazda, who will become an official partner of the game starting next year.

From the only sketch available, we can discern that the GT3-class digital racer looks very similar to the show car. However, it has a more dynamic stance, with a big front apron, side skirts and rear wing, and what appears to be a gigantic diffuser that make it seem like a more extreme version of the RX-Vision.
Kazunori Yamauchi, the game’s creator, and Julien Montousse, Mazda’s North American design chief, who were present on stage during the announcement, declined to go into specifics. Thus, we have no idea yet whether a rotary powertrain will be found under the long hood, but the RX-Vision did come with a SkyActiv-X powertrain, which was then referred to as the company’s next-generation rotary engine.
Rumors of the rotary making a comeback have been around ever since the RX-8 was discontinued in 2012, and during this time, mysterious prototypes were spied testing at the track, believed to pack such a mill.
