The Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport F1 Team is categorically not for sale, Carscoops can confirm.
Earlier this week, a sensational report surfaced indicating that Mercedes-Benz was looking to sell its F1 team and hand over daily operations while still remaining a constructor and engine supplier in the championship. However, a well-placed source who wishes to remain anonymous has confirmed to us that this is not the case.

Mercedes is currently negotiating with Liberty Media (the owners of F1) the commercial and governance agreements from 2021 onwards. The team has yet to sign up beyond the end of the 2020 season, but considering its dominance in the sport over the past few years, it seems unlikely that it would consider backing away.
The report claimed that the Mercedes-AMG F1 team could be purchased by either Roger Penske or Russia’s wealthy Mazepin family – and, apparently, it was inaccurate. As recently as last week, Daimler chief executive re-iterated just how important the company’s Formula 1 team is.
The 2019 Formula One World Championship has proven to be a particularly successful one for the German outfit. Lewis Hamilton secured the Drivers’ Championship for the second year running at the recent United States Grand Prix and the Mercedes team defended the World Constructors’ Championship at the Japanese Grand Prix. Next year, the company will retain its driver line-up of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.
