During a private briefing ahead of the LA Auto Show, Automobili Pininfarina laid out its plans for the future following the production launch of the Battista electric hypercar in 2020.
Pininfarina will celebrate its 90th anniversary next year as well and wants to combine this with the acquisition of a production facility in Italy responsible for building the models that will follow the Battista.
During the event, Pininfarina’s Chief Designer Officer also revealed the design of the Pura Vision concept, a full-size luxury electric SUV that will make its world debut in North America during the second half of 2020. Pininfarina said they want to redefine “the market for pure-electric cars christened Luxury Utility Vehicles”.

In addition, Pininfarina is teaming up with Mahindra Racing for the so-called ‘Hyperdrive’ event that will take place at the Calafat Circuit in Spain later this year. This is where the first customers of the Battista will get to drive a proper Formula E car.
“The Automobili Pininfarina Hyperdrive experience provides a new benchmark of performance for hypercar buyers, but it also recognises the need to introduce new and different test drive experiences that allow guests to better understand the technology of the future,” said Jochen Rudat, Automobili Pininfarina Chief Sales Officer. “Our clients loved the whole experience and we will be developing this initiative in the future.”
The development of the Battista electric hypercar is now well underway, with the company having completed the dynamic simulation and wind tunnel testing. Prototype examples will be thoroughly tested throughout the winter, before the first client drives in spring 2020. Each Pininfarina Battista will be hand-assembled in the historic Cambiano facility in Italy.
Pininfarina is collaborating with Bosch Engineering and Benteler to develop an EV-specific architecture that will underpin the brand’s future utility models and even offer it to other car makers.
