Not all crossovers are bland and boring and this video shows that the new BMW X4 M is far removed from the stereotypes often applied to vehicles of this shape.
During a recent review of the so-called ‘coupe-crossover’, a Russian vlogger by the name of Alan Enileev decided to see how the X4 M Competition would respond if aggressively thrown sideways and provoked into performing the type of donuts you’d usually only expect to see from a rear-wheel drive sports car. It fared really well.

Powering the German model is a 3.0-liter twin-turbo six-cylinder engine delivering 503 hp and 441 lb-ft (598 Nm) of torque, figures that result in a sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 4.0 seconds and a 177 mph (285 km/h) top speed.
As impressive as those figures are, all of the car’s grunt is sent through all-four wheels, not just the rears. But unlike the all-wheel drive system of the M5 and M8, the X4 M doesn’t offer the option of being driven in rear-wheel drive only mode.
Nonetheless, it appears right at home spinning around in circles, leaving black tire marks across the pavement and sending tire smoke into the air.
Owners wanting to have this type of fun in their X4 Ms (and presumably the X3 M), can enable a rear-biased AWD Sport model once the stability control has been switched off. It may not be true rear-wheel drive but it certainly does the truck.
