There’s plenty of restomods at SEMA, but few are as advanced as Xing Mobility’s 1969 Camaro. The first thing you’ll need to know about it is that the conventional V8 engine was replaced by an electric motor that develops 320 hp (239 kW / 324 PS). However, customers can choose from other motors if desired.
Designed to promote their electric conversion kit, the Camaro doesn’t look terribly special. However, that’s the point as the package allows customers to have a classic car with a modern electric powertrain.
As Taiwan’s Xing explains, their conversion kit comes complete with a modular battery, a high-power electric motor, a transmission adapter and related components. The company says this approach mirrors a traditional crate engine and the entire system is “plug-and-play.” This means the conversion is relatively straightforward and can done by tuning shops, professional hot-rodders and even home-based car builders.
One of the biggest problems with aftermarket conversions is that they typical source components from crashed Nissan Leafs and Tesla vehicles. This process is time consuming and the savaged components aren’t always a good fit for your build.
Xing says they’ve managed to solve this by using an Immersio battery system that is modular and can be assembled like building blocks. This allows people to customize the size and shape of the battery to fit their needs.
Besides its modular design, the battery pack has cells that are submerged in a non-conductive cooling fluid with fire-suppressing properties. It keeps the battery temperature stable and allows the battery to survive up to 3,000 charging cycles.
Another key component is the transmission adapter. It is compatible with GM LS series transmissions, but the company said it can also be adapted to match other gearboxes.
