This year has been a dismal one for Holden. Not only have its sales plummeted, but its chief executive recently stepped down and the iconic Commodore will soon be killed off. There is a glimmer of hope, however, and it comes in the form of the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray.
Holden Australia recently took to Instagram to share an image of a Corvette that just landed at its headquarters in Melbourne. We’re only offered a glimpse of the sports car’s rear quarter panel and wheels but are quite sure it won’t be a right-hand drive model and simply a demonstrator shipped over from the U.S. to be displayed and promoted by Holden.
U.S. Power Heading Down Under: New Corvette Coming To Australia In 2021 In Z51 Guise And Without Chevrolet Branding
Earlier this month, it was revealed that the new Corvette will likely hit the Australian market in late 2020 and won’t be offered in entry-level Stingray form. Instead, all Aussie-bound examples will be equipped with the Z51 Performance Package that carries a $5,000 premium over the base Stingray in the U.S. It is also understood that Australia-delivered Corvettes will be equipped as standard with the 3LT package and GT2 seats.
Chevrolet itself has admitted that it is unsure of how much demand there will be for the Corvette in Australia and other right-hand drive markets. If priced correctly, we see no reason why it couldn’t sell well, especially if it can undercut its European rivals like it does in the U.S. Early reports point towards a starting price of over AU$150,000, or a touch over $102,000 at current exchange rates.
