The premiere of the 2020 Genesis GV80 has reportedly been pushed back once again and is now thought to be on track to arrive in January.
This month, a series of images showcasing the GV80 in full have emerged, as have details related to the engine line-up. Sources out of South Korea had asserted the SUV would debut on December 19 but that didn’t happen.
According to Hyundai, the arrival of the Genesis GV80 has been pushed back because it needs to “be perfect.” More specifically, it is reported that the 3.0-liter diesel six-cylinder engine that will be offered in some markets has been delayed due to environmental certification, Seoul reports.

While the car manufacturer has yet to publicly state a new unveiling date, a company official told local media “The target is to be released in January next year.”
It is understood the aforementioned 3.0-liter diesel model will be the first variant to launch. One month later, a pair of petrol engines will be added. The entry-level petrol engine will be a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder delivering 300 hp and 311 lb-ft (422 Nm) of torque. That should be enough to send the SUV to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 6.9 seconds.
Sitting at the top of the range will be a turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 variant offering up 375 hp and 390 lb-ft (530 Nm) of torque, reducing the sprint to 62 mph down to an impressive 5.7 seconds.
Reports out of South Korea claim that local pricing will start at ₩58.5 million ($49,138 / £37,379 / €44,415) and jump to ₩82.5 million ($69,296 / £52,713 / €62,637) for a high-end diesel model.
A North American presentation is expected at the New York Auto Show next April.
