Nissan is launching the 2020 Kicks compact SUV at dealerships across the US market, with the new model year offering more safety kit as standard.

More specifically, the 2020 Nissan Kicks now features the company’s Safety Shield 360 suite of active safety systems as standard across the range. This includes Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Rear Automatic Braking, Lane Departure Warning, radar-based Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and High Beam Assist.

The structure of the Kicks’ range remains unchanged, meaning three available trim levels – S, SV, and SR. The only other change Nissan made to the 2020 Kicks is the addition of Rear Door Alert as standard on the SV and SR grades.

Prices for the 2020 Nissan Kicks start from $18,870 for the base S model and reach up to $21,120 for the SR, not including a $1,095 destination and handling fee. This makes 2020 Kicks marginally more expensive by $330 over last year’s model.

Nissan’s entry-level crossover model is powered by a naturally aspirated 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine producing 122 HP and 114 lb-ft of torque. All models come fitted with an Xtronic CVT, which helps fuel economy -31 mpg city, 36 mpg highway and 33 mpg combined.

Other standard equipment includes a seven-inch touchscreen display for the infotainment system, which supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A Bose audio system and Nissan’s Around View Monitor are among the options. Customers of the 2020 Nissan Kicks can choose between seven exterior colors and five two-tone combinations.

It might not be the fastest or the most exciting but the 2020 Nissan Kicks remains one of the most affordable new crossover models in the market, despite offering plenty of kit and personalization options.
