The Ford Mustang GT is a car that can be described as adequately fast in its worst day, so it shouldn’t be an issue beating that weird-looking Defender sitting next to it, right? Well… not really. You see, this isn’t a Land Rover Defender, it’s a Bowler Bulldog.
You could be easily justified thinking that this is just another tuned Defender Carwow has sourced for its latest drag race, perhaps one with a juicy engine swap hiding under the bonnet, but the truth is that while the Bulldog may look like the British off-road icon, it’s a completely different vehicle. To put it simply it’s a rally car.

The familiar body panels dress Bowler’s own aluminum chassis, which in turn features front and rear subframes from the Range Rover Sport and the 550 HP supercharged V8 powertrain from the model’s SVR version. Total weight is around 1,800 kg (3,968lbs), which isn’t far off from the Ford Mustang GT sitting next to it.
Power for the Mustang comes from a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8, producing 443 HP (450 PS) and 390 lb-ft (529 Nm) of torque. Paired to it in this occasion is the 10-speed automatic transmission, which helps it reach 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standstill in 4.3 seconds.
Suddenly things don’t look that good for the Mustang, do they? After all it lacks a significant amount of firepower against the Bulldog, it isn’t that much lighter and has only two driven wheels. Perhaps its superior aerodynamics might help it against that rally raid monster with the unassuming presence. Well, which would of the two you place your money on?
