A number of electric vehicle owners in Croatia held a brief protest at a suburban gas station earlier in the week to respond to conventionally-powered vehicles Icing (or ICE-ing) electric charging stations.
As reported on Insideevs, footage captured from the protest and shared online by Igor Kolovrat, a member of the unofficial Tesla Motors Club Croatia, shows approximately 15 electric cars parked at the gas station. Included among the cars at the protest were a handful of Tesla Model Ss, a Smart ForTwo Electric Drive, two BMW i3s, a Hyundai Kona Electric, a new-age Nissan Leaf, a VW e-Up, and a VW e-Golf.
A Childish Trend: Why Are Truck Owners Blocking Tesla Superchargers Across America?
“Revenge of the Electric Car!” Kolovrat wrote on Facebook. “This is how it looks when you have no other solution to emphasize the problem of blocking charging stations for EVs than to block gas station with electric vehicles. The performance lasted 6 minutes and it was not our intention to harass anyone, but to point out the fact that electric vehicles are here, and their positive impact on society.”
The act of ‘Icing’ gained mainstream coverage late last year after a handful of ICE-powered vehicles started intentionally blocking EV charging stations across the United States. Last month, a Ford F-150 Raptor was filmed being towed away in Germany after parking in front of an EV charger.
We’re unaware if there are any laws in Croatia related to ICE vehicles parking in electric vehicle spots but in the United States, many states have enacted laws to make Icing illegal. Among the states to implement such laws are California, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Florida.
