What do we say to the Angel of Death? Not today, man, not today! That was likely what was on one Ford Super Duty SuperCrew owner’s mind during a cabin fire related to the latest recall announced by the company, which is worthy of a Hollywood movie script.
According to information released earlier this month, the front seatbelt pretensioner can generate excessive sparks in the event of a crash, which in turn, could ignite the carpet and/or the carpet insulation area around the B pillar. The flames could engulf the entire cockpit, increasing the risk of injury or even death.

Ford states that aside from that single life-threatening incident, it is not aware of any other accidents or injuries related to this condition. The recall affects 490,574 units of the 2017-2019 Super Duty SuperCrew in the United States and federalized territories, 56,112 in Canada and 852 in Mexico. All of them were built between October 8, 2015, and October 29, 2019, at the Kentucky Truck Plant.
The fix will see technicians inspect each vehicle and apply foil tape to the carpet and carpet insulation. They will also modify the sound deadener on the back side of the B pillar trim panel. The Blue Oval did not say when the recall will commence, but until they hear from the company, concerned owners can get in touch with their local dealer or reach out to the Ford customer service using the 19S52 reference number.
