The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is the must-have performance car of the moment and some Ford dealerships across the United States are looking to cash-in on demand for the range-topping pony car.
Ford advertises the Mustang Shelby GT500 with a $73,995 starting price although it’s not difficult to spec one out to beyond $100,000. As Ford Authority recently discovered, Koons Ford in Sterling, Virginia is advertising an example for $145,890, despite the fact that a GT500 with the same options has a price of $105,890 according to Ford’s official configurator. That means the dealership is putting on a premium of $40,000.

As Autoblog notes, Koons Ford isn’t the only dealership trying to make the most of demand for the car. DCH Ford of Thousand Oaks is asking $169,999 – and this particular example has far fewer options than the Koons Ford one. In fact, it doesn’t include the carbon fiber track package, Technology Package, navigation, painted stripes, a painted roof, or even a premium paint color. In fact, it looks to be nothing more than a base spec model with a near-$100,000 mark-up.
Fortunately for customers, there are many Ford dealerships across the country selling GT500s at MSRP, including AutoNation Ford in Texas and Village Ford in Dearborn, Michigan.
At the $73,995 MSRP, the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 is a bit of a bargain. That’s because it is powered by a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 delivering no less than 760 HP and 625 lb-ft (847 Nm) of torque, will accelerate to 60 mph (96 km/h) in roughly 3.5 seconds and run down the quarter-mile in less than 11 seconds.
