Genesis has been filmed hustling the 2020 G80 around the Nurburgring. Unsurprisingly for a car of this size, the G80 doesn’t look at home on the racetrack.
As we’ve seen from other recent prototypes, Genesis continues to keep the G80 under wraps even though it’s obvious that much of its design will be inspired by the larger G90. With this in mind, we can see the company’s new triangular front grille as well as the split head- and taillights.
Delays After Delays: 2020 Genesis G80 Launch Allegedly Pushed Back Again, Now Set For Early Next Year
In August, Genesis boss Manfred Fitzgerald revealed to Car and Driver that the new G80 would be unveiled in September. That never happened. The South Korean carmaker had originally wanted to showcase the G80 in April. That didn’t eventuate either. Most recently it has been reported that the 2020 G80 will be unveiled early next year.
It is understood that the G80’s premiere has been pushed back on at least two occasions due to some kind of delay related to the 2.5-liter Turbo Theta III and 3.5-liter Turbo Lambda III engines the G80 will use in select markets. Other markets, including the United States, will likely be offered the G80 with an entry-level 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6.
We don’t yet know what changes the interior of the 2020 G80 will undergo, but having recently spent some time with the outgoing model, we do think that a series of significant modifications are necessary for it to catch up with the competition.
