It’s Official: 2020 Seat Leon Will Premiere On January 28

Seat has finally announced the official unveiling date of the fourth-generation Leon, which has been set for January 28, 2020.

The teaser video accompanying the announcement previews the lighting units and back end of the all new compact hatchback. The car features new LED head and taillamps, with dynamic indicators, and a thin light strip that connects the two taillights. The ‘Leon’ badge sits under the ‘Seat’ logo in the middle of the tailgate, and further to the right, we can see an ‘FR’ logo.

Upon approaching the Leon, a welcome light projects the word ‘Hola!’ onto the asphalt. Once inside, users will notice the ambient lighting that runs across the dashboard and doors. Behind the three-spoke multi-function steering wheel is a customizable digital instrument cluster and further to the right sits the wide-screen infotainment system, which supports over-the-air updates. There’s a small gear selector as well and what seems to be a storage space in front of it, which is probably where the upper specs will get a wireless charging pad for mobile phones.

“Advanced lighting technology is key in enhancing a vehicle’s design. In the all-new Seat Leon, we have been able to use to great effect to empower its already strong character”, said the company’s Design Director, Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos. “Inside, its wraparound ambient light takes the new Leon yet to another level of functionality and aesthetics.”

Based on an updated version of the MQB platform, like the new VW Golf and Skoda Octavia, it will launch with an assortment of petrol and diesel engines, as well as mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The Cupra Leon will sit at the top of the lineup and might get two powertrain options: a 2.0 TSI with around 300 horsepower and a PHEV rated at 240+ HP that will be able to travel for around 30 miles (50 km) in all-electric mode.
