Jeep Intends To Electrify All Its Models By 2022

Jeep is set to electrify all of its vehicles in the next two years as it looks to establish itself as a green brand.

During a recent media event in New Zealand, Jeep global president Christian Meunièr revealed that Jeep will become “the greenest SUV brand in the world” adding that the electrified models in the works will be “the best Jeeps ever” as well as some of the fastest.

Jeep already has an extensive line-up of vehicles and will add even more in the coming years. By 2022, the Compass, Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, Renegade, Grand Commander, Wagoneer, and Grand Wagoneer will all be offered with either plug-in hybrid or traditional hybrid powertrains, Which Car reports.

The car manufacturer believes the addition of electrified powertrain options will further boost its global sales which have already skyrocketed from roughly 300,000 vehicles sold worldwide in 2009 to no less than 1.5 million sold this year.

The recently-finalized FCA-UAW labor contract re-confirmed earlier this month that Jeep is building a new plant in Detroit to handle production of a new three-row vehicle arriving in 2020. The following year, the next-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee will arrive and be produced at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant. Both the long-awaited Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will go into production at the Warren Truck plant in 2021.
