The McLaren Elva is quite a remarkable thing to look at and Top Gear recently paid a visit to the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking to check it out in person.
McLaren showcased the Elva in a dark shade of grey last month but the example featured in this video is painted in an eye-catching shade of satin blue. It is not a functional prototype and is simply a show car but provides an accurate look at what the production-spec vehicle will look like.
Much like the 720S, McLaren’s designers decided against developing a speedster featuring large and in-your-face air intakes and grilles. The front end, for example, is remarkably simply and makes do without the controversial ‘eye-sockets’ of the 720S. At the sides, there are small side air intakes to feed the engine but you can hardly notice them thanks to the contrasting carbon fiber finish.
Millionaire Special: New McLaren Elva Is A Roofless Hypercar With No Windshield And A Twin-Turbo V8
Beyond its exterior design, the McLaren Elva is particularly promising because it will be the lightest model in the brand’s family, undercutting the 1,198 kg (2,641 lbs) of the Senna. It’s also a touch more powerful than the Senna as McLaren has been able to extract 804 hp and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque from the 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine. It will hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in less than 3 seconds and 124 mph (200 km/h) in a mere 6.7 seconds.
Production of the exclusive hypercar will be capped to just 399 examples worldwide, each priced from $1,690,000.
