Police in Australia gave chase to a Nissan Patrol over the weekend – and not even a set of spike strips could stop its driver.
7 News reports that the chase started in Logan, near the city of Brisbane, on Sunday night. Police officers caught on to the vehicle after it was determined that it was stolen from a nearby town on December 10 and a chase quickly ensued. It was all captured by a police helicopter with a thermal imaging camera that was tracking the SUV from above.
Shortly after the driver exited a major motorway, police deployed a spike strip to try and bring the car to a halt. Not willing to give up so easily, the Patrol driver turned back on to the motorway, hitting speeds of up to 130 km/h (80 mph). Remarkable footage shows three of the SUV’s four tires flying off the Patrol as it speeds down the motorway with only the driver’s side rear tire remaining attached to the wheel.

When the driver tried to take an exit ramp, they finally lost control and ended up crashing the Patrol into a ditch. Authorities in pursuit pounced, arresting the 29-year-old and charging him with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, driving of a motor vehicle without a license, as well as an evasion offense.
The unnamed driver appeared at the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday and did not apply for bail.
