For 1,948 fortunate Porsche customers, the hugely desirable 2019 911 Speedster is here and looks to be one of the finest sports cars the company has ever built.

Much like the 911 GT3, the Speedster is powered by a 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated flat-six. Thanks to some minor modifications including the fitment of better injectors, this engine pumps out 502 hp and 346 lb-ft (469 Nm) and revs to 9,000 rpm. There is only a single transmission available and, much to the joy of purists, it is a six-speed manual.

Porsche’s flat-six engines are some of the finest powertrains on earth and absolutely scream. The lack of a fixed roof on the Speedster means drivers can enjoy this engine and its roaring exhaust sound better than in the fixed-top GT3.

Stunner: 2019 Porsche 911 Speedster Is Just Like A GT3 But With Looks To Die For

The 911 Speedster deals with the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) sprint in just 3.8 seconds and will max out at 192 mph (309 km/h). Unless you live near the German autobahn, though, you are unlikely to ever get near that figure, but as this review from Autocar shows, one doesn’t have to drive the Speedster at ten-tenths to really enjoy it.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that the limited-run 911 Speedster isn’t cheap. In fact, with a $274,500 starting price in the United States, it’s only about $20,000 less than the much faster 911 GT2 RS with its twin-turbos and an extra 200-odd horsepower.

However, if you had the choice, would you really take the GT2 RS? As tempting as the latter might be, we’d pick the 911 Speedster any day of the week – and twice on Sundays.
