The Tesla Model 3 just got a little quicker as the company has launched a new “Acceleration Boost” option for the Dual Motor Long Range variant.

As the name suggests, the Acceleration Boost option increases performance and the car can now run from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.9 seconds. That’s 0.5 seconds faster than the standard model, but it’s still slower than the Model 3 Performance which can hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 3.2 seconds.

Electrek says the performance boost is delivered as part of an over-the-air software update that costs $2,000. That’s not exactly cheap, but it could be tempting for owners who got their cars early or didn’t want to shell out an extra $8,000 for the Model 3 Performance.

It remains unclear if the option also increases the top speed, but the standard model maxes out at 145 mph (233 km/h). This is 17 mph (27 km/h) less than the Model 3 Performance.

It also remains unclear if the car’s range is affected by the upgrade. Without it, the Model 3 Dual Motor Long Range can travel 322 miles (518 km) between recharges. That’s a little bit further than the Model 3 Performance which has a range of 310 miles (499 km/h).

We’ve reached out to Tesla for more details and will update this post when / if we hear back.
