This rendered tiny Suzuki truck will soon become a reality, as the students from the Nihon Automobile College (NATS) are completing work on it.
Inspired by the Jimny Adventure, it will premiere at the 2020 Tokyo Auto Salon next month and builds on the first generation Suzuki Lapin.

The 2004 kei car has had its roof chopped off behind the B pillars, making room for a bed covered by a custom canopy. Other body parts have either been modified or built from scratch, like the front doors, rear quarter panels and roof rack, which can hold four spare wheels.
The front end of the Lapin has been infused with a Jimny-style grille, fender flares have been added to all four corners and the new air suspension contributes to the revised stance. The 15-inch wheels come from Dean Cross Country and are wrapped in 165/50 Toyo tires, and if it ever gets stuck, then that winch mounted at the front should come in handy.
For power, NATS has used the 658 cc engine that produces 64 PS (63 hp / 47 kW) at 6,500 rpm and 105 Nm (77 lb-ft) of torque at 3,500 rpm.
Made from 2002 to 2008, the first generation kei car had a curb weight of 780-850 kg (1,720-1,874 lbs). It was available with the 657 inline-three, offered with two outputs: 55 PS (54 hp / 40 kW) and 60 PS (59 hp / 44 kW). Transmission options included a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual.
