Volkswagen has released the first teaser video of the upcoming Nivus.

Billed as an “Urban Coupe,” the model is a stylish crossover that promises to “revolutionize the market and inaugurate a new segment in 2020.”

The company didn’t say much about the model, but the teasers show it will have a large lower air intake which is flanked by triangular fog lights. Further up, there are sweptback headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights.

Aft of the hood, there’s a rakish windscreen which gives way to a sloping roof. We can also see a tailgate-mounted spoiler, wraparound taillights and what appears to be a pronounced shoulder line.

Volkswagen was tight-lipped about specifics, but the company has previously said the model was “100% developed” in Brazil and will combine sportiness with a high driving position. The model also aims to democratize crossover coupes by making them affordable to the masses.

Besides the sporty styling, the Nivus will have an all-new infotainment system. It promises to be intuitive and offer a high level of connectivity as well as personalization.

Little else is known about the model, but it will ride on the MQB platform and be built in Europe following its launch in Brazil next year.

According to Motor1, the Brazilian model will be offered exclusively with a 1.0-liter TSI engine and front-wheel drive. The latter is a bit disappointing, but the engine will reportedly produce 126 hp (94 kW / 128 PS) when paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. A six-speed manual will also be available, but it will reportedly come with a lower output of 114 hp (85 kW / 116 PS).
