Four people are dead after a high-speed chase involving a stolen UPS truck in Miami, Florida.
Miami CBS Local reports that, on Thursday afternoon, a pair of thieves robbed the Regent Jeweler’s at 386 Miracle Mile and shot a female present. Shortly afterwards, the robbers carjacked a UPS truck as their getaway vehicle and held the delivery driver hostage.
Police soon caught up with the thieves and a chase along public roads quickly ensued. When traffic forced the driver to stop, a shootout between the thieves and approximately 20 police officers started. Before long, the two thieves were dead. It was later confirmed that the UPS delivery driver held hostage was also killed on the scene.

“Our condolences go to the families of the deceased of today’s unfortunate incident,” special agent in charge of the Miami Field Office George Piro said.
Piro told the media that the FBI is leading an investigation into the incident in coordination with the Miami-Dade Police Department, the Miramar Police Department, Pembroke Pines Police Department, Coral Gables Police Department, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
UPS expressed its sympathies to the family of the delivery driver who was killed.
“We are deeply saddened to learn a UPS service provider was a victim of this senseless act of violence,” it said. “We extend our condolences to the family and friends of our employee and the other innocent victims involved in this incident. We appreciate law enforcement’s service and will cooperate with the authorities as they continue the investigation.”
