Most famous cars used in blockbusters had positive roles, including K.I.T.T., General Lee and the Ectomobile. Not Christine, though, a 1958 Plymouth Fury that starred in ‘Christine’.
Approved by the devil himself, the vehicle featured in the 1983 film directed by John Carpenter and based on Stephen King’s novel is now up for auction, with Mecum having it listed for the Kissimmee event that takes place in Florida from January 2 to 12.

Said to be the only documented ‘Christine’ movie car in existence, with the right paperwork trail and proof of ownership from Polar Films, the Fury should sell for $400,000-$500,000, according to the auction house’s estimates. Everything stands correct to the filming days, bar the ‘Watch out for me, I am pure evil, I am Christine’ sticker on the rear bumper, which is there to draw more attention.
Favored by Stephen King over the more popular 1950’s Thunderbirds or Galaxies, the 62-year old classic Plymouth underwent restoration and boasts a red paint finish and white roof. The interior follows the same color combo and power comes from the small-block Wedge V8 engine, with 4-barrel carburetors, Offenhauser intake manifold and TorqueFlite automatic transmission. It’s also equipped with power brakes and power steering.
As for the how it ended up on the used car market part of the story, the auction house explains that it was given away in a promotional raffle that promoted ‘Christine’ on New Year’s Eve. Roughly 40,000 people entered the sweepstakes and Scott Edminster was declared the winner.
Aside from ‘Christine’, the Fury made a cameo appearance in ‘Cat’s Eye’, another adaption after one of Stephen King’s novels.
