1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 EXP ‘Little Red’ Restored To Its Former Glory

The restored 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 EXP prototype known as ‘Little Red’ was presented to the world over the weekend by Barrett-Jackson.

The car, long thought to have been lost, is owned by chief executive of Barrett-Jackson, Craig Jackson, and was found rotting away in Texas field. Well aware that this is one of the most important Ford Mustangs in history, Jackson immediately pledged to have the car fully restored to its former glory.

Over the weekend it was displayed alongside another Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 prototype dubbed ‘Green Hornet’ as well as the two 2020 GT500s that Jackson ordered to pay tribute to ‘Little Red’ and ‘Green Hornet.’

When discovered by Jackson and his team in Texas, Little Red was in a very sorry state and had a number of missing panels. To bring it back to life it has been given a fresh lick of candy apple red paint and fitted with a new black vinyl roof. It remains to be seen what powertrain is found beneath the hood of the restored car but Automobile Magazine reports that it originally had a supercharged big-block V8.

Just before Christmas, Jackson took delivery of the very first 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 created as a tribute to Green Hornet. It is bathed in paint combining a Lime Green base coat with Candy Apple Green upper layers. Jackson’s second 2020 GT500, this time paying tribute to Little Red, is painted in Rapid Red.
