The most valuable of the five models sold was an example with just 4,600 miles (7,402 km) on the clock, fetching a staggering $350,000 (before fees). The second most expensive example traded hands for $235,000 with 42,514 miles (68,419 km) under its belt. Following behind it was another M3 Lightweight that sold for $220,000 with just 14,283 miles (22,986 km). The final two examples from Walker’s collection both sold for $200,000 each with 15,485 miles (24,920 km) and 34,400 miles (55,361 km) on their odometers respectively.
BMW is thought to have only ever built between 120 and 126 examples of the E36 M3 Lightweight. All examples left the factory painted in Alpine White III and most came equipped with chequered graphics. However, one of the five sold from Walker’s collection didn’t have these graphics.
Found beneath the skin of the M3 Lightweight is a 3.0-liter naturally-aspirated inline-six engine delivering 240 hp and 225 lb-ft (305 Nm) of torque. This engine is coupled to a five-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels. Each of the five sold were in superb condition, both inside and out.
A host of other cars owned by Walker were sold over the weekend. These included a modified Nissan 370Z from Fast Five that sold for $105,600.
