The BMW M5 Competition and its sleeker-looking competitor from Audi, the RS7 Sportback, settled their differences at the Hockenheim-GP.
Video: The BMW M5 Competition Is So Fast It Warps Time And Space
The two high-performance executive cars were put through their paces by SportAuto’s Uwe Sener, on different days, and both runs were recorded from the cockpit and timed. We will move on to the actual videos in a few moments, but until then, let’s see what the spec sheets say.
The Audi RS7
The RS7 Sportback packs a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, supplemented by a 48V system, which kicks out 600 PS (592 hp / 441 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque. The car comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, completes the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration in 3.6 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). Audi will bump the max speed for you to 280 km/h or 305 km/h (174 / 190 mph) with the optional Dynamic or Dynamic Plus Package respectively .
The BMW M5 Competition
Part of the sixth-generation and the first one to get an M-tuned xDrive all-wheel drive system, the M5 Competition comes with a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, matched also to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. It develops 625 PS (616 hp / 460 kW) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque, which helps rocket the sedan to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.3 seconds from a standstill, and up to a top speed 250 km/h (155 mph), or 305 km/h (190 mph) when fitted with the optional M Driver’s Package.
As you can tell, the two models are very close to each other from a performance standpoint, but which one do you think was faster at the German track? Only one way to find out.
