Chevrolet has confirmed that the first customer deliveries of the 2020 Corvette will kick off before the end of February.

Shortly after the conclusion of the UAW strikes late last year, General Motors revealed it would have to delay production and deliveries of the mid-engined Corvette for a few months.

A company representative told us at the time that production would commence sometime in February with first deliveries “shortly thereafter”. Now we don’t have to speculate what that means anymore, as in a press release regarding the recent sale of VIN #0001 Corvette, Chevrolet revealed that first customer cars will be delivered before the end of the month.

“Corvette coupe production will begin at GM’s Bowling Green Assembly Plant in Kentucky in early February, with customer deliveries slated to begin before the end of February,” the statement reads.

We asked a Chevrolet spokesperson to put a more specific date on when the first C8 will be delivered, but he declined to do so, pointing us to the release we mentioned above.

Confirmation of the start of production comes not long after Chevrolet opened up order books for the 2020 Corvette Convertible. Prices for the droptop start at $67,495. It’ll be interesting to see what share of C8 sales are for the Corvette Convertible because unlike Corvette Convertible models of the past, this new one features a folding hardtop and promises to be just as rigid and handle just as well as its coupe sibling.

Perhaps the only downside is that the Convertible weighs 80 lbs (36 kg) more due to the folding top and the six electric motors that operate it.

Driving the 2020 Corvette is the company’s new-and-improved LT2 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8 engine offering up 495 hp and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm) with the performance exhaust.
