The current Dodge Challenger has been around since 2008 and according to Mopar Insiders, it will stick around for quite some time.
Speaking to unnamed (and unconfirmed) sources within Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, the publication was told that the current Challenger will stick around into the 2023 model year.
When it does come time for a new-age Dodge Challenger to hit the market, FCA will reportedly build it alongside the outgoing model for a few months at its Brampton Assembly Plant in Ontario, Canada. Production of the next-gen Challenger, as well as a new Charger, will reportedly kick off in the fourth quarter of 2022.
The current Dodge Challenger may be old but it did receive a major refresh in 2015 and remains extremely popular. In fact, the aging Challenger comfortably outsold the Chevrolet Camaro in both the U.S. and Canada last year, racking up a total of 63,038 sales, some 12,537 more than the Camaro. There’s no doubt that Dodge’s decision to launch the 707 hp Challenger SRT Hellcat model a few years ago played a pivotal role in boosting the muscle car’s popularity.

Before the next-gen Challenger arrives, Dodge is said to be working on a track-focused ACR-badged variant. Additional versions and new trim levels can also be expected to help keep the car fresh.
In October, Dodge seemed to drop an Easter Egg in the press photos of the 2020 Dodge Challenger with the number ‘2023’ visible on the instrument cluster. The automaker quickly shot down speculation that 2023 was necessarily going to be the date the next Challenger would launch.
