Karma intends on unveiling an all-electric pickup truck concept before the end of the year as it looks to create a rival to similar electric trucks being developed by Tesla, Rivian, General Motors, and Ford, Bloomberg reports.
Karma chief operations officer Kevin Pavlov says the pickup will be based on a new all-wheel-drive platform that Karma will start producing at its factory in southern California. This platform will also be used for an electric SUV in the future.

The sole model currently produced by Karma is its $135,000 Revero. Pavlov said the pickup will cost less than the Revero, but failed to say what price point the automaker will target. Tesla claims the Cybertruck will hit the market from $39,900 in rear-wheel drive guise while a mid-range Rivian R1T pickup with dual electric motors will start at under $69,000, as that price was for the mid-level model. Prices for the electric pickups from General Motors and Ford remain unclear.
Despite a host of new and innovative electric pickups set to flood the market in coming years, Karma believes it can compete with the best.
“We can bring a utility vehicle into the market and be differentiated,” Pavlov said.
Approximately 1,000 units of the Karma Revero were sold last year so the company still remains a very niche player. If it’s serious about getting into the hugely-competitive pickup truck market, it will have to deliver a product that’s far cheaper and has a broader appeal than the Revero. Doing so will not be easy.
