The time for the first (of many) drag race between the new Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 and its main rivals, namely the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE and Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye, has arrived courtesy of Edmunds.
Of course we can’t help but state the obvious here by saying that the race is bit predictable and a little unfair towards the Camaro ZL1 1LE, which might be the lightest of the three, but it’s also the least powerful. The Challenger Hellcat Redeye on the other hand is the most powerful of the three but it’s also the heaviest by a lot.

The new Ford Mustang Shelby GT 500 is motivated by a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Output is rated at 760 HP and 625 lb-ft (847 Nm) of torque, making this Mustang able to run the quarter mile in less than 11 seconds, always according to Ford.
The Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye employs an also supercharged 6.2-liter V8 bolted to an eight-speed automatic transmission and rated at 797 HP and 707 lb-ft of torque. That gets you a muscle car capable of running the quarter mile in 10.8 seconds.
Compared to these monsters, the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE seems pretty …weak, as it only gets 650 p and 650 lb-ft of torque out of its supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine, which in this case is paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
So, how did this race go? Well, no (more) spoilers. See for yourself below.
