It’s not very often that a unique trim level of a car as ‘ordinary’ as the Subaru Forester would trigger headlines around the world. Last week, however, the Subaru FUCKS edition presented at the Singapore Auto Show did just that.

The car, officially dubbed the Subaru Forester Ultimate Customized Kit Special edition, quickly went viral when the first images of it surfaced online. The Japanese car manufacturer has since sent out a letter to its U.S. dealers explaining the car and apologizing.

According to the letter sent to dealerships, the special edition Subaru FUCKS was created by an independent distributor in Singapore and not Subaru itself, The Drive reports.

“We work very hard to build a strong brand image for this company and the naming of this vehicle in no way reflects the values and standards we hold true. Furthermore, we will always do our best to protect our brand’s integrity,” the letter states. “This vehicle was created by the distributor for the Singapore Motor Show and it goes without saying that this car will not be available in the United States market.”

While Subaru doesn’t appear particularly happy about the FUCKS edition, we think it should be thanking the distributor for all the free publicity it generated for the brand. It remains unclear if Subaru has been in contact with the distributor and if it may force it to think up a new name.

For what it’s worth, the FUCKS name does suit the modified Forester quite well. Most notably, the SUV sits on aftermarket Enkei wheels, include yellow brake calipers, is painted in a combination of blue and red, and even features a subwoofer and Focal amplifiers.
