The 2006 Acura RSX Type-S Was One Of The Finest Cars From Honda’s Golden Era

With the NSX and Civic Type R currently in its range, there’s no denying that Honda makes some exciting performance cars. However, there was a time, not too long ago, when the Japanese car manufacturer had a fleet of truly incredible driver’s car. The Acura RSX Type-S, like this example for sale on Bring A Trailer, was one of the finest and perhaps least appreciated.

For roughly a 15 year period between 1990 and the mid-2000s, Honda built cars like the first-generation NSX, the AP1 and AP2 S2000, and multiple generations of the Civic Type R including the EP3, perhaps the finest of them all. In addition, there were the DC2 and DC5 generation Integra Type R, two of the best-handling front-wheel drive cars ever conceived.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the RSX Type S, sold in some markets as the Integra Type S, isn’t quite as revered as some of its siblings, probably because it doesn’t have a Type R badge. However, it is a true pocket rocket and a joy to drive. I should know as I owned one for almost five years. With this in mind, we think this low-mileage example for sale in Fairfax, Virginia is an absolute gem and the perfect car for a young driving enthusiast on a budget.

At the time of writing, the car had a highest bid of just $7,100 with two days left in the auction. The car only has 16,000 miles (25,749 km) on the odometer and is being sold with service records, two sets of keys, a clean Carfax report and a clean Virginia title in the seller’s name.

The RSX Type S was introduced after the DC5 Integra Type R and focused slightly more on luxury with leather seats and a slightly more restrained bodykit. Beneath the skin, however, it is every bit as good as the Type R thanks to a screaming 2.0-liter VTEC four-cylinder with 201 hp and 140 lb-ft (189 Nm) of torque (in the U.S. market) that was mated to one of the finest six-speed manual transmissions ever.
