A tow truck driver in Alaska is lucky to be alive after surviving a near miss on Christmas day.
As you can see in this dashcam video, the Anchorage Police Department and a tow truck were assisting a disabled Ford Ranger on December 25th. As the tow truck driver was making his final inspection underneath the pickup, a Kia Sorento can be seen approaching the scene.
This is where things go horribly wrong as the driver of the Sorento loses control. Since the tow truck driver is on his knees looking at the Ranger, he’s clueless about the oncoming crossover.

As the Sorento crosses into the other lane of traffic, the driver manages to regain a limited amount of control. This allows them to put the crossover into a slid sending white roaster tails into the air. While sliding, the crossover comes within feet of the tow truck driver who sticks his head up as the vehicle goes charging by. He then jumps up, clearly shocked by what just happened.
While clip doesn’t show what happened to the Sorento, the police department confirmed no one was injured in the near miss. They also said “Had any tiny variable been slightly different in these three seconds, this could have been an incredibly tragic day.”
The department decided to release the video to remind drivers to slow down. As they stated, “This serves as a critical reminder that especially during these winter months, where our roads are covered in ice and snow, everyone MUST exercise extra caution behind the wheel.” They went on to say “Slow down. Plan ahead. Your life and the lives of others depend on it.”
