With the clock ticking for the opening of the 2020 Tokyo Auto Salon, NATS has dropped new images of their pint-sized Toyota 2000GT lookalike, which you can gaze upon right below the jump. [Updated 1/8/2020]
Students from Japan’s Nihon Automobile College (NATS) have spent the past few months working on all sorts of custom cars for the 2020 Tokyo Auto Salon, including one very special Suzuki Cappuccino that they’re turning into a Toyota 2000GT and naming it appropriately 2020GT.
The kei car has had its body converted to mimic the look of the sports car made by Toyota between 1967 and 1970. The finished roadster will look identical to the teaser render, complete with bolt-on fender flares, a large rear spoiler, and 16-inch wheels wrapped in 205/45 Toyo tires front and 225/45R16 at the back.

Prior to getting the custom body kit, the Cappuccino had its wheelbase extended by 250 mm (10 in) to 2,310 mm (91 in), which is just 10 mm (0.4 in) short of the real 2000GT. It also gets a reworked interior complete with sports seats, Sparco steering wheel and Kenwood audio system, and what appears to be a soft top that can be pulled up from behind the seats when the weather goes bad, ditching the detachable hardtop of the stock Suzuki.
The 0.657-liter double overhead cam engine has carried over from the kei car and develops 64 PS (63 hp / 47 kW) at 6,500 rpm and 85 Nm (63 lb-ft) of torque at 4,000 rpm. The 2000GT replica obviously won’t break any speed records, but it shouldn’t be a complete slouch either, as it likely still weighs under 1 ton (2,205 lbs). After all, the Cappuccino tipped at scales at 725 kg (1,598 lbs).
