Toyota GR Supra Now Offered With BMW’s 2.0L Turbo-Four In Europe

Toyota is introducing an entry-level four-cylinder variant of the GR Supra in Europe, a year after the iconic sports car made its world debut at the Detroit Auto Show.

So far, the only market to get the base GR Supra was Japan, but that’s about to change as European customers will be offered the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine as well.

The BMW-sourced unit produces 255 HP (258 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque and is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard. Toyota claims that the base Supra can achieve a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.2 seconds, while top speed is limited to 155 mph (250 km/h).

In addition, the Japanese carmaker mentions that the smaller engine brings certain dynamic benefits to the GR Supra; for starters, the car is 100 kg (220 lbs) lighter than the six-cylinder model, while the more compact engine allowed Toyota to positioned it closer to the center of the vehicle to secure the ideal 50:50 front-rear weight balance.

During the initial launch of the new GR Supra variant, Toyota will offer European customers the option of a special “Fuji Speedway” limited edition; this model will stand out from its unique white metallic paint finish for the bodywork with red door mirror housings and its 19-inch matt back alloy wheels. The interior will feature carbon fiber inserts for the dash, as well as an eye-catching red-black Alcantara upholstery. The Toyota GR Supra “Fuji Speedway” will be limited to 200 examples in Europe only.

The four-cylinder Toyota GR Supra will offer 18-inch alloy wheels, an 8.8-inch infotainment with a four-speaker audio system and seats dressed in black Alcantara as standard. The active safety range will include systems like Pre-Crash Safety with Braking Function, Pedestrian and Cyclist detection with Braking Function, Lane Keep Assist with Active Steering, Road Sign Assist and an Intelligent Speed Assist also as standard.

Customers in Europe will be offered optional packages to build their ideal GR Supra, including the Connect pack -for a built-in navigation system and online connectivity features- and the Sport pack, which adds goodies like an active differential, adaptive variable suspension and more capable brakes.

There’s also a Premium pack that adds more comfort features, like a 12-speaker JBL premium sound system, head-up display, wireless smartphone charger, black leather upholstery and power seat adjustment with memory setting.

Sales of the new 2.0-liter Toyota GR Supra will begin in Europe this March.
