It’s no secret that Toyota is working on a new small SUV model that will sit below the existing C-HR and use the same GA-B underpinnings with the new Yaris.
Auto Express now reports that the new small Toyota SUV is expected to be revealed in the latter half of this year, bringing the fight to models like the Renault Captur and Nissan Juke.
The new Toyota crossover will be similarly sized with most current supermini models, meaning around 4.0 meters in length, introducing the Japanese car maker to the European B-SUV segment for the first time.

Toyota’s European Executive Vice-President, Matt Harrison, said that the specific segment is steadily growing, pulling customers down from the C-segment (Toyota Corolla, VW Golf). Harrison added that while they are pretty impressed on how the bigger C-HR is doing on the European market, they “don’t think for a minute that we’ve got it all covered”.
The upcoming Yaris-based SUV will become Toyota’s second model to use the flexible GA-B architecture, featuring MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam at the rear. Compared to the Yaris hatchback, it’s expected to be marginally longer and around 40 mm taller, featuring a longer wheelbase and wider tracks as well. The platform is also compatible with a more refined multi-link rear suspension, which indicates that Toyota may offer AWD versions too if it so wishes.
Chances are that Toyota’s baby SUV will be offered with hybrid-only powertrains, including the electrified 113 HP 1.5-liter one used by the Yaris hatchback and front-wheel drive. Toyota might offer a regular 1.5-liter petrol model as well, but only in specific markets and depending on demand.
