Volvo has launched a promotion that could see it give away $1 million worth of cars during Super Bowl LIV on February 2.
The Swedish car manufacturer won’t air a commercial during the sporting event but will run its Volvo Safety Sunday promo. It’s very simple. If a safety occurs during the Super Bowl, Volvo will give away $1 million worth of cars. Those interested in potentially receiving a free Volvo (who isn’t) can head to the company’s dedicated website, design their perfect Volvo, enter the competition, and could be chosen at random as one of the winners.

There have only ever been nine safeties during the Super Bowl’s 53-game history so the likelihood of one happening this year isn’t great. However, it’s certainly far more likely to happen than you winning the lottery.
A safety occurs when an offensive team is tackled, loses, or fumbles the ball, or commits a penalty in their own end zone. Volvo doesn’t have a particularly strong history with football but it does have a strong history with safety and that’s what the promotion is all about.
“From the invention of the three point-safety belt sixty years ago to other world firsts, safety is at the center of everything we do at Volvo,” Volvo Car USA head of brand communications Jim Nichols said. “In football, a safety play can be a game changer. At Volvo, our safety innovations have changed the game for millions on the road.”
