New VW Caddy Previewed In More Realistic Sketches Ahead Of February Debut

Volkswagen’s commercial vehicle division has released new sketches and details of the all-new Caddy compact van.

Scheduled to debut at the end of February, the fifth-generation VW Caddy will adopt evolutionary styling, as evidenced in these official CGIs. The lineup will include a standard-wheelbase Caddy family MPV and long-wheelbase Caddy Cargo urban delivery van.

According to VW, the new compact commercial vehicle will be “very different” from its predecessors. The automaker says no screw has been left untouched, though that’s not very obvious in these renderings.

The 2021 VW Caddy family MPV is broader and longer than the current standard-wheelbase passenger model. While this means interior space will grow, the impression of space will be enhanced as well thanks to a huge panoramic glass roof which VW says it’s the largest in the segment.

The new Caddy adopts a familiar face featuring horizontal headlights whose LED DRL signature is continued by a trim strip in the upper grille and by the vehicle’s creases in the side body panels. At least in these digital images, the model appears more dynamic thanks to the central bulge in the bonnet and massive lower grille with honeycomb inserts (on the Caddy MPV).

As requested by customers, the 2021 VW Caddy will offer bigger wheels, though these seem exaggerated on purpose in the official sketches as usual. At the back, the new Caddy features vertical taillights that look not only longer than those on the current model but also slimmer, according to VW.

We don’t get a look at the interior yet but the automaker talks about a “large cargo capacity and great flexibility.” Volkswagen also mentions the 2021 Caddy will gain access to more driver assistance systems than ever and will be “always connected,” becoming “its own internet device with real-time information on wheels.”

The technical advancements will be made possible by the reported switch to the MQB platform which will allow VW to also offer 48-volt mild-hybrid systems with the latest gasoline and diesel engines, as well as the newest infotainment systems.

Both the 2021 VW Caddy and Caddy Cargo will be unveiled at the end of February.
