Truth to be told, Porsche’s 924 series is one of the lesser (for some even ‘least’) desirable models to come out from Stuttgart, but this specific model deserves your attention, as long as you can swallow the high estimated selling price.
Every once in a while, Porsche builds limited edition specials of its sports cars like the 964 Carrera RS and 911 R and this is one of them. Meet the 1982 924 Carrera GTS that’s ready to hit the auction block at the RMSothebys event in Paris, France, on February 5. The car is estimated to fetch between €220,000 and €280,000 ($243,495-$309,902) and is one of only 59 built, including 15 of them prepped for racing.

In 1980, Porsche produced four-hundred and six units of the 924 Carrera GT to homologate it for the GTP Class the 24 Hours of Le Mans back, with 59 of these evolving into the rare 924 Carrera GTS you see here. This specific model was retained by Porsche for about a year after it left the assembly line, during which it was serviced twice, in April and August of 1982.
During its stay at the factory, it was driven for at least 8,300 km (5,157 miles), and was listed as having 271 PS (267 HP / 199 kW), which was the output of the 924 GTS Clubsport, instead of 249 PS (245 HP / 183 kW), according to the auction house. Nonetheless, it does not feature any of the extras of the Clubsport model, such as the roll cage, race seats and lightweight construction.
The 924 Carrera GTS comes bundled with the original manuals, is in a superb overall condition and is basically begging to be reintroduced to the road. The question is, would you be the one to do it, if you had that much money lying around, or would you rather get something more modern?
