The 2020 Ford F-350 and GMC Sierra 3500 are two seriously imposing heavy-duty trucks and as The Fast Lane Truck recently discovered when testing the two side-by-side, are both very capable.
Much of the review is focused on what’s important for big heavy-duty trucks like these and that’s their towing capacity and hauling abilities. With that being said, a drag race between the two is also held and it’s particularly interesting.
Let’s be honest, no one buying a Ford F-350 or a GMC Sierra 3500 are all that interested in how the pickups accelerate off the line but it’s quite a surprise just how accelerative the two are. It was the Ford that got off the line the best and hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 7.75 seconds while the GMC Sierra achieved the same mark in 8.66 seconds. That’s a pretty big difference.

Such times are comfortably quicker than many family SUVs and small hatchbacks and just go to show that despite how large these trucks are, their large engines make up for many of their shortcomings.
Powering the Ford is a 6.7-liter Power Stroke turbo-diesel engine that’s good for 475 hp and 1,050 lb-ft (1,423 Nm) of torque that’s sent to the pavement through a 10-speed automatic transmission. By comparison, the GMC features a 6.6-liter Duramax turbo-diesel engine offering up 445 hp and 910 lb-ft (1,233 Nm) and also coupled with a 10-speed automatic.
