Following its spy debut back in December, the upcoming Cupra Formentor was spotted again, this time during some cold-weather testing near the Arctic Circle.
The Formentor is expected to become Cupra’s first standalone model since the brand’s separation from SEAT, when it arrives in the market in 2021. The new crossover coupe was previewed by a near-production concept last year.

The final production version appears to be almost exactly the same with the concept, retaining most of the sculpted details of the bodywork. These include the rear quarter panels, the broad shoulder line and the aggressive rake of the rear window. The front end is similar to SEAT’s latest models, like the new Leon, but will feature a more imposing bumper with bigger air intakes.
The cabin is getting a dashboard similar to that of the Leon, featuring sharp angles, a digital instrument cluster and a 10-inch infotainment system with the latest natural voice control function and of course Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Different color and trim options will be responsible for jazzing things up a bit, together with a flat-bottom steering wheel and a pair of sports seats.
The engine range will include at least two options: a turbocharged 2.0-liter TSI petrol with around 300 HP and the latest plug-in hybrid 1.4-liter TSI petrol with a combined output of 242 HP and an EV range of around 30 miles (50 km). These two powertrain options, both accompanied by a dual-clutch automatic transmission, are also expected to be offered in the new Cupra Leon hatchback as well.
The 2021 Cupra Formentor will also feature an adaptive suspension and a front limited-slip differential, with the chassis tuned to offer an exciting drive worthy of the brand’s claims.
