Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has some pretty wild performance machines in its range and two of the very finest are the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk and Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio.
Car Magazine down in South Africa recently decided to pit the two cousins against each other for a quarter-mile drag race to see which is the quickest. The race doesn’t quite go as you may expect.
On paper, the Cherokee Trackhawk has a significant advantage over the Stelvio Quadrifoglio as it is powered by the marque’s 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat V8 engine with no less than 707 hp. By comparison, the Alfa Romeo uses a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 offering up 503 hp.

According to claims from Jeep and Alfa Romeo, the Cherokee Trackhawk and Stelvio Quadrifoglio are capable of hitting 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.5 seconds and 3.8 seconds respectively. Watch this clip, however, and you could be forgiven for thinking it is the Alfa that has the advantage.
Off the line, the Stelvio quickly establishes a lead and as the race continues past the halfway mark, clinches onto its lead. However, as the drag race continues, the Jeep starts to make the most of its extra power and is able to overtake the Italian just before the line. The Jeep ultimately needed just 12.37-seconds to cover the quarter-mile while the Alfa Romeo crossed the line in 12.77-seconds.
Although the Trackhawk has the upper hand in a straight-line, we’d much rather have the keys to the Alfa Romeo if we were going on a road trip with some mountain passes.
