All-Electric Xpeng P7 Pushed To The Limits During Winter Testing

Chinese automaker Xpeng has wrapped up cold-weather testing of its all-electric P7 sedan.

The Xpeng P7 follows on from the G3 SUV which the electric startup introduced to the Chinese market last year. Xpeng’s P7 was first unveiled to the world in April 2019 during the Shanghai Auto Show.

Xpeng spent no less than 120 days cold-weather testing the P7 in temperatures that dropped as low as -40°C (-40° Fahrenheit), allowing engineers to test out critical components of the sedan. Much of the car’s testing related to its traction control system. In addition, Xpeng worked to fine-tune the chassis and the vehicle’s handling. With none other than Porsche Engineering playing a key role in the chassis, we’ve got little doubt the P7 will handle quite well.

“We are proud of the P7’s exceptional performance in the most testing winter conditions,” vice president of Xpeng Motors Jack Xu said. “The test results are a credit to Xpeng’s engineers, and to the superior quality systems of the P7.”

Powering the range-topping Xpeng P7 are a pair of electric motors, one of each axle, that allow the car to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4 seconds. The battery pack used sits at a reported 80.87 kWh and is said to provide the P7 with more than 600 km (372 miles) of range on a single charge. Those in the market for a more-affordable variant will be able to purchase a rear-wheel drive model with 263 hp that hits 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds.
