Motor Trend’s recent Best Driver’s Car test brought together some of the finest cars currently on sale and in addition to the cars competing in the ‘world’s greatest drag race,’ some of them also competed in the inaugural Best Driver’s Car Grand Prix.
Not all of the cars from the test were featured in the Grand Prix. For example, McLaren didn’t want Motor Trend to race the Senna while other vehicles from Best Driver’s Car, like the Bentley Continental GT, simply aren’t designed for driving like this. As a result, the field is limited to the new Toyota Supra, Aston Martin DBS Superleggera, Jaguar XE SV Project 8, Ford Mustang Shelby GT350, Porsche 911 Carrera S and in place of the Senna, McLaren’s almighty 600LT.
Driving the cars were a number of racing drivers including Randy Pobst, Marino Franchitti, and three-time Formula Drift champion Chris Forsberg.

Fittingly, the Toyota Supra was given an advantage and started in pole position as it has far less power than any of the others. Despite this, it stayed in front for the better part of an entire lap. It wasn’t long before some of the more powerful models started to make their presence felt, quickly passing the Toyota and running off into the distance.
For the first two laps, the 600LT being driven by Jethro Bovingdon stayed towards the back of the field but in the final lap, the veteran journalist put the hammer down and used all of the McLaren’s power, overtaking the Porsche, Aston Martin, and Ford Mustang in a single corner to take the lead.
Can he keep the lead across the finish line? You’ll have to find out for yourself.
